The old fittings were steel so had rusted over the years. After trying to resurrect them, and failing, I decided to get a new set. I searched everywhere for replacement hinges, so was very surprised to find a complete kit on the Ironmongery Direct website. I was initially worried about sizes being the same, but I shouldn't have worried. Excellent set of fittings for everyone. (Free returns are a bonus)

Great product with fundamental flaws.

Purchasing simplex kits for a recent job I assumed that it would be as the name suggests, simple. However there is only one batten rod screw supplied with the product which is not enough for the majority of sash and case windows in the UK. Minimum of two are required for a quality finish. Next, the screws supplied with the batten rod screws are too long. If I were to use them with the batten rod I bought from your site, (at the same time as the simplex kit) it would screw the batten rod onto the case and completely negate the function of the simplex kit. Batten rod is half an inch or 12mm thick as standard in the UK. Supplied screws were 16mm long. Furthermore, the hinges supplied with the simplex kit for taking the weight of the bottom sash, do not come with a brass screw to put in the sash, again completely negating the purpose of the product. I had to purchase twice the required simplex kits to have enough batten rod screws as they aren't sold separately for some reason. I also had to purchase locally at very short notice high quality slotted brass screws (inch and a quarter by eighths for the sashes and half inch by three sixteenths) to make any use of the simplex product. It is the same as selling a piano with no strings. Have a nice day. Regards
