I bought these to replace identical ones we had purchased from Ironmongery direct and fitted 10 years ago (the spring had broken on the original ones). We have a period house, so these suit it really well. The only thing which is a bit surprising is that despite being visually identical to the earlier ones, the screw holes dont match up, so i had to redrill 3 of them in the oak doors.

Looks good when installed, but build quality could be a little better

I bought two pairs for a set of internal double doors, of the four handles two already had damage to the black coating. Not critical given the antique effect I'm aiming for, but worth mentioning. One of the handles springs back significantly higher than the other three so they don't line up which kind of annoys me but I'll live with it (tradesmen may have less forgiving customers). The arc of travel is fairly limited (probably to avoid stressing the spring) which prevents the latch retracting to it's full limit. Fix is to rebate the striker plate further into the frame (actually the other door in this case) and/or file a deeper chamfer into the striker plate. Otherwise the quality is pretty good with positive smooth movement and robust build. These handles do look great when installed, and the 'rustic' character does mean that the minor finish and alignment defects don't scream. Note for DIYers... though called a 'latch set' the set does not include a latch mechanism or striker plate which must be purchased separately. The set does include a square cross section latch bar and black finish wood screws.
