We have a thirty-six year old mahogany back door which, due to sheer age, and the fact that I had to rawplug the frame to the brickwork, 10+yrs ago, due to the door frame becoming loose. I had been forced to use very large screws driven into the surrounding bricks at an angle. These had to interrupt the seal in 3 places due to the geometry and this, combined with the age, was enough to cause the seal to start failing. It did last well though. So the challenge was to find a replacement, via my beloved Internet, and I wasn't too hopeful. After much surfing, however, I was fortunate enough to find precisely the same seal all these years later! I wasn't that surprised, though, as the seal works well, is well designed and is very cheap and easy for the door manufacturers to fit. I was delighted and relieved by the find and was equally delighted by the super-quick service as it is was an awkward item to deliver... being a 9ft long flimsy, semi flexible, extruded plastic seal. I wasn't at all sure how ‘Ironmongery Direct’ would manage this. However, the very next day! a courier came to the door with the seal which had been placed in a 3m long, stout cardboard tube; so that problem had been solved! The seal design incorporates a barbed protrusion which fits into a 2mm wide slot machined into the door. I had to cut this protrusion locally to clear the screw heads but it worked well. So I have been very pleased indeed with the whole experience and the delivery of a free catalogue too....... this company sure does keep some stock!! Highly recommended!
