Disappointed!

Unfortunately, this particular item was no good. The draught proof wings, or fins, which stick out, were made of hard plastic and locked the sash, preventing it from moving. I had to remove it and replace the original, which, although plastic based, the wings, or fins, were made of a more flexible material, which allowed the sash to move.

Nearly unusable

Very stiff fins with almost no compression, makes sashes very hard to slide, we had to re-machine the windows to enable us to use them

Fits in MY groove!

I have hunted high and low for a suitable parting bead for my sliding sash windows but there are very few that are made for a 3/8in groove - about 9.5mm. This one is made for 10mm, so with a little sanding to widen the groove I think its great. no brush to collect the dirt and the fins stop the draughts and the rattles.

I like using Exitex Fin bead

I have used them on several jobs now. The parting beads work well as long as the plough grove is the right size, it helps with draughtproofing, and no worry about getting paint on the bead as it wipes off.

Does the job

They are OK but a couple of things don't work too well. The fins are quite stiff and make the sash too tight unless it has lots of play (got over that by chamfering the edge of the stiles). They are a really tight fight in a standard parting bead channel (got over that by running a multi-tool down the channel next too the old timber parting bead - that was a pain in the neck).
