Looks good and works well.

Nicely produced stay which looks good and works well. Simple to fit though inexperienced users may be reassured if some brief fitting guidance were given (it isn't). I like the fact that screws are NOT included: I get heartily sick of throwing away the rubbish fixings supplied with most ironmongery fittings these days. The drawings available on the ID site are worth downloading for reference. I noticed a review suggesting that this unit is difficult to set up and fix, which is not really the case. To set the stay up, first check that the surfaces upon which the stay will mount will adequately support the unit; open the door 90 degrees (or thereabouts, depending on the opening angle required); fully extend the stay and hold it in the estimated position for mounting; mark the position of screw holes in both mounts; close the stay and close the door; offer the mount up to the closed door again using the marked screw holes to position it; if everything aligns, you're ready to fix; if you can't get the holes aligned with the marks, adjust the position of the stay slightly, re-mark the holes and repeat the open/closed positioning test. If you are still not confident, mount the stay as indicated by your markings but with just one screw each end: now you can (gently) physically test your installation before finally mounting using all of the screw holes.

Ideal heavy duty door restrictor

I fitted a pair of these door restrictors to sitting room French doors five years ago. They work very well both restricting maximum opening (to 95 degrees) and minimising unwanted movement in the wind, except in very gusty conditions. Although quite bulky, the restrictors have a functional elegance. The Ironmongery Direct website provides useful product drawings. Even so, fitting is a challenge that involves trial and error. It is also necessary to purchase seven 1 1/4 inch no. 8 brass screws per unit. This year, when I fitted new heavy French doors to the conservatory, I had no hesitation in ordering two more identical units. The outcome is again exactly as desired. An excellent product.
