Thankfully, the mechanics of Caulking Guns are fairly simple, therefore, the issues that can arise are also simple to fix.

Parts of a Caulking Gun

A standard Caulking Gun will consist of a barrel or frame that holds the tube of caulk or sealant, a plunger rod and plate to push the product out of the tube, and a large trigger with a release tab to control the plunger.

Caulking Guns also feature a smaller trigger to assist in removing the tube of caulk or sealant when it’s time to replace it.

What you’ll need

To be able to fix a Caulking Gun, the only tool you’ll need is a wrench/spanner.

This guide relates to a common issue found in Caulking Guns where the release tab on the trigger has become bent out of shape and therefore effecting the functionality of the trigger.

Step 1:

Using your wrench/spanner, remove the nut that secures the plunger plate to the plunger rod, then remove the rod. Ensure that you’re holding the release tab as you do this.

Step 2:

Now you need to remove the release tab, and while holding on to the spring that controls the trigger, flip the release tab over and put it back in to place. Make sure the hole in the release tab lines up with the hole that the plunger rod will go through.

Step 3:

While still holding the release tab and spring, insert the plunger rod back in to the barrel, with the hook end of the barrel towards the top of the gun.

Step 4:

All you need to do now is reattach the nut to the plunger plate, test the trigger to make sure it is working correctly, if so, the job is done.
