What is a weather bar?

Weather bars provide your home and external door with an extra layer of protection from rain or snow. Typically, they’re attached to the bottom of your door and are also designed to prevent draughts, improving your home’s energy efficiency.

How to fit a weather bar: step-by-step

  1. Measure the width of the door. Cut the top drip (a piece of timber or similar material) to fit the space between the stops on the outer part of the door frame
  2. Cut a slight angle on the end of the weather bar where the door meets the frame on the lock side; this will help prevent the bar from jamming
  3. Position the weather bar at the bottom of the door and check it’s correctly aligned
  4. Mark the positions for the screw holes on the weather bar and door
  5. Using an electric drill, pre-drill holes onto the weather bar to make it easier to insert screws
  6. Apply a waterproof adhesive onto the weather bar
  7. Attach the weather bar to the door and securely fasten
  8. Fill any holes with waterproof filler to prevent water leaking in
  9. Apply sealant along the edges of the weather bar
  10. Check and inspect the door opens correctly

There you have it: your new weather bar is fitted and ready to start protecting from rain, wind and more. If you want to install any additional seals around your doors, check out our expert guide.
