What you’ll need:

Before diving into the installation process, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials at hand. Here's a list of items you'll need:

Worktop edging strip

Measuring tape

Pencil

Utility knife or sharp scissors

Contact Adhesive

Heat gun or iron (optional)

Roller or laminate trimmer

Sandpaper or file

Step 1:

Begin by cleaning the edges of your worktop thoroughly. Remove any dust, dirt, or grease that might hinder proper adhesion. Make sure the worktop is fully dry before continuing.

Then, cover your worktop with masking tape to avoid damage and to protect it from the adhesive.

Step 2:

Using your measuring tape, carefully measure the length of the exposed edge of your worktop, adding a few extra centimetres to account for any overlapping or trimming for the cleanest finish.

Then, mark this measurement with a line on your worktop edging strip with your pencil.

Step 3:

Next, take your utility knife or scissors and cut the edging strip along the marked line. To ensure a clean and precise finish, cut carefully and slowly, and if the strip has a protective film, leave it intact until later.

Step 4:

Now that your worktop edging is prepared for installation, apply a thin, even layer of your contact adhesive along the back of the strip.

If you are using heat-activated adhesive, follow the manufacturer's instructions to activate the adhesive using your heat gun or iron.

Step 5:

Carefully align the edging strip with the edge of the worktop, ensuring it covers the exposed area completely.

Apply gentle pressure along the entire length of the strip, then use your roller or laminate trimmer to achieve the most secure bond.

Step 6:

Once the adhesive has dried or set, trim any excess edging from the worktop. Using either the utility knife or the laminate trimmer, carefully trim the edging strip to match the contours of the worktop, while avoiding any damage to the worktop.

After trimming, use your preferred sanding or filing method to smooth the edges of the edging strip for a seamless finish.

If your choice of worktop edging came with a protective film, now would be the time to remove it. Make sure you do this gently to avoid damage.

Step 7:

All that’s left to do is to check over the installation for any gaps or imperfections, and to make sure the edging lines up with the worktop perfectly.

If this is not the case, you can apply extra adhesive or adjust the alignment until you get the perfect fit. Now you can enjoy the enhanced aesthetics and protection provided by your newly edged worktop.
